Wino’s Favourites

Here I list a few things floating my boat right now.  There is a certain randomness as I update this absolutely on a whim.  Demotion from this list does not mean I have fallen out with the target.

WINE

My favourite reasonably priced red wine is from Argentina: Landelia Malbec 2005.

My favourite cheap Pinot Noir is from Chile: Hurtado Reserva 2006.

My favourite crisp dry white is (predictably) a NZ Sauvignon Blanc: Trinity Hill 2007

Talking of Kiwi Sauvignons, I was mildly disappointed by Cloudy Bay 2007.

I reckon the best value wines in the UK right now are coming from South America, check out anything from Susana Balbo (Argentina) or try this Chilean Carmenère from Adobe for something a little different.

I can’t afford to buy Bordeaux 2007 en primeur because I spent my entire wine budget on 2005.

FOOD

My favourite restaurant in London right now is The Wolseley.

My favourite restaurant in Leeds has always been The Flying Pizza.

My favourite Manchester resto is currently Sam’s Chop House (Manchester).

The restaurant I am least likely to ever visit again is Sam’s Chop House (Leeds)

OTHER

My favourite place to drink wine is Fortnum and Mason 1707 Wine Bar, Piccadilly, London.

My favourite gadget is my combine harvester.

The wine blog I am enjoying right now is Intoxicating Prose, by Douglas the Sommelier from London.  Pretentious?  Yes.  Intelligent?  Of course!  Funny?  Sort of….
