Have you seen the Scarecrow festival at Kettlewell? It's a little bit strange if you're not expecting it because they set up some very convincing dummies around the village. We were nearly fooled by the fake cricket team!

If it's wine you're after, sample the Wensleydale Heifer in West Witton - just 20 minutes on from Kettlewell if you know the roads (not available on the usual road maps). They have an excellent wine list and a good selection of whiskies.

You've only got one liver, so your excused. Cape Mentelle do make a cheaper SSB blend, called the Georgiana, which is about half the price and occasionally of similar quality.

Yeah I do have a bit of a blind spot for Aussie wines which is unfair, because almost every one I have tried has been pretty darn good.

Alastair,
I'm surprised you haven't tasted the Cape Mentelle wines before. Their Cabernet / Merlot is one of WA's most famous - and a very reliable club with which to beat diehard claret fans who won't drink Aussie wine.

cheers

Maybe when you get older, you' ll appreciate french wine, wich won' t be overly oaky and will have at least a bit of lenght..
Hope to hear from you when you' re 90...

Hehe, what a funny comment. But I agree with Ciaran on the translation (yay, 10 years of Spanish are worth something!). Plus, it's even funnier when taken in the context of unclogging the toilet.

I think some of the '04's (generally excellent in my opinion) are a little closed and so decanting could have helped.

12th September is great for me.

I went to the Boxwood Cafe on Saturday for my dad's birthday. I agree with you that the loos are worth photographing (and did so). Perhaps alarmingly, however, someone else was taking a picture when I walked in... (More to come!)
