Dark glass is generally used for the lightest wines to protect them from the harmful effects of UV light that can age and ruin the wine.

Albariño is almost exclsively grown in Galicia and it ripens well in their wet climate (it has twice or more the average rainfall of the UK - but maybe not in 2007). It is a grape being discovered by more and more people and is often referred to as "Spain's best white grape".

It is notoriously hard to make, but has come into its own since the wineries in the region have upgraded to the most modern, anaerobic tools and techniques to protect thie grape from premature oxidation.

I totally agree with you about the grape, but there are lots more producers to explore than this particular version, but I expect the more classic examples will be around the £10 mark.
