Costco’s Anjou Cough Medicine

Anjou, the Loire village better known for its Rosés is the latest to be laughing behind the back of the wine buyers at international warehouse shop, Costco.  Once again Costco has placed cost as a more valued criterion than quality.

At £4.99 plus VAT for 50cl, this dessert wine is certainly cheap but with notes of honey and lemon cough mixture, it doesn’t match up to anything from Sauternes, or Tokaji.

La Roulerie with a CSC Journal and an Opera North programme (for some reason)

La Roulerie 1996, Coteaux du Layon, Chaume is clearly not the best year or this bottle was not from the best batch.

In fairness I would be interested to give it another try one day, as the sweet wines from Chaume do have a certain reputation.  So I guess this is just the Costco factor at play again in my view.  Commoditise wine, make it look cheap – and you get what you pay for in the end.
